Firearms Residues

Residues

The analysis and interpretation of gunshot residues by our experts allows us to determine if a suspect may have fired a firearm or has been in the vicinity of a firearm when fired, or has been subject to contamination from sources of residue. Different types of firearms residues are encountered in criminal casework. Elemental analysis of residue composition can distinguish these different residues and so can be used to discriminate between different events, and sometimes between different firearms or cartridges.

The terms gunshot residue (GSR), firearms discharge residue (FDR) and cartridge discharge residue (CDR) all refer to the same evidence.

Please contact one of our firearms residues experts for more information.
