
The analysis and interpretation of gunshot residues by our experts allows us to determine if a suspect may have fired a firearm or has been in the vicinity of a firearm when fired, or has been subject to contamination from sources of residue. Different types of firearm use different types of ammunition which produce different types of residue. Elemental analysis of residue composition can therefore be used to discriminate between the use of certain weapons and events.
The terms gunshot residue (GSR), firearms discharge residue (FDR) and cartridge discharge residue (CDR) all refer to the same evidence.
