Digital Forensics update - Extensions to scope of accreditation

September 03 2024

Keith Borer Consultants’ Digital Forensics team recently hosted UKAS for our annual inspection. As part of this assessment, we successfully maintained our accreditations covering capturing and preservation of data from hard disk drives, and processing of data from Windows and Linux computers using Magnet Axiom.

In addition, we are pleased to announce a significant extension to our accredited scope:

  • Processing of data from Windows and Linux computers using X-Ways Forensic. This fantastic addition means that both of the two primary tools our experts use to conduct our digital forensic examinations of computers are now included in scope.
  • Analysis of data from Windows, Linux and MacOS computers using Magnet Axiom and X-Ways Forensic. This means, in addition to the preservation and processing aspects, the analysis stage is also included within our scope, giving coverage of the whole forensic process from end-to-end.
  • Capture, preservation, processing AND analysis of data from Apple iOS/iPadOS mobile phones and tablets. This is our first extension of our accreditation into mobile phone forensics, and an especially important one as Apple devices account for almost half of mobile devices in the UK. This extension provides assurance of the end-to-end process when dealing with these devices.

Digital Forensics Team Leader Ross Donnelly said:

“This is a huge milestone for KBC, a culmination of extensive work by our digital forensic team. These extensions to scope reflect our commitment to providing cutting-edge digital forensic services and ensuring the highest standards of work. We believe these additions will significantly benefit our customers by providing reliable, end-to-end forensic options in compliance with the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice, and our team are already hard at work on further extensions – watch this space!”

Our full schedule of accreditation, including our other non-digital areas, can be found on the UKAS website. For more information or to discuss how we can assist your case, please contact our team.
